El hombre, residente en la ciudad de Yogyakarta, comenzó a padecer fiebres altas el pasado 24 de julio y tres días más tarde fue ingresado en un hospital donde estuvo hasta su fallecimiento el 30 de julio, indica el informe del ministerio indonesio.

Las autoridades desconocen cómo contrajo el virus, aunque indicaron que vivía con cuatro aves de mascota y a unos 50 metros de una granja de aves de corral.

Desde enero de 2012, el virus ha causado la muerte de un indonesio de 24 años y de su hermano de cinco; una joven de 19 en Yakarta; un chico de doce años y otro de ocho en la isla de Bali; una mujer de 24 años y un bebé de dos en la isla de Sumatra; un adolescente de la isla de Lombok y una niña de ocho en Java.

Indonesia es el país más afectado por el virus de la gripe aviar, con 190 casos registrados y 161 muertes entre 2003 y 2012, de acuerdo con los datos de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).
